oh I forgot all about this blog. or lack of blog. I don't post here very often, as I don't often have time to be on the computer, what with all the urban homesteading that I am doing on my urban homestead. We used to have 10 acres a long time ago. 8 years ago we moved into the city and brought our chickens and bees to our tiny 1/4 acre lot and moved from country homestead to urban homestead. It's too cold and rainy to do much outside today, so I thought I'd take a moment and shout out URBAN HOMESTEAD! Okay, back to baking.

harvested all the broccoli and romanesco. planted cucumbers, peppers.
Ate the first tiny golden tomatoes a couple of days ago.
harvested onions and parsnips and potatoes.
bathing the four year old child outside right now, so when she's done with her bath I can use the water for the plants.
had a clothes swap at the park today, mostly because I needed a few summer things for the girls.

This morning I made a baked peach/nectarine confection.

Sort of like a bar cookie with a pureed peach and nectarine layer topped by crisp topping.

2 cups rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt

mixed with 2 sticks cold butter cut in.

use most of mixture to push into bottom of 9x13" pan.
top with pureed mixture of fruit, about 4 cups (cooked and thickened with a little cornstarch)
use the rest of mixture to crumble on top.

I'll let you know what happened next.
